Services

Some of PROMPT's most important assets are its front line field providers. Our staff is a dedicated and experienced group of people. PROMPT has been able to maintain a family oriented atmosphere with a low turnover of associates. PROMPT provides competitive pay, overtime, benefits, flexible scheduling, employee assistance program, and continuous training in an effort to take care of the providers that are charged with caring for your community.

A large and dedicated staff allows PROMPT to provide a high level of training and supervision for its associates. Safety issues and training are addressed directly and immediately through direct communication with the staff, an open door policy, and constant interaction with management. All PROMPT supervisory staff members continue to serve as field providers and dispatchers in order to maintain a realistic perspective and remain in touch with the needs of the field staff.

EMERGENCY
PROMPT is extremely proud of its field staff. A majority of the paramedic staff started with ties to PROMPT at the EMT-B level and continued their training for the Advanced Life Support (ALS) level while working as Basic Life Support (BLS) field providers. We’re particularly proud of this fact, as it has allowed us to maintain continuity and a staff that is very familiar with our service area and the other providers in our system. The BLS staff does a mix of emergency and non-emergency work in an extremely busy system. BLS staffed ambulances respond to a significant amount of emergency calls and work closely with the ALS staff in the field and in training.

PROMPT Ambulance Service has provided Emergency Medical Services to the communities of Griffith since January 2002, Dyer since April 2001 and Munster and Highland since December 1, 2004. PROMPT maintains an average response time of less than four minutes for all of these towns. PROMPT averages 16 emergency calls daily.

PROMPT also provides Emergency Medical Services to other communities for Advanced Life Support and resources for multi-casualty incidents as requested.

NON-EMERGENCY

PROMPT provides non-emergency ALS and BLS ambulance transportation to and from local facilities. Currently, PROMPT regularly provides non-emergency ambulance service to all of the local hospitals, as well as several other area medical facilities and programs.

All patients have a choice as to which ambulance service to use for their non-emergency medical transfer needs.

When calling for non-emergency ambulance service, please be aware that the dispatcher will ask for basic information on the patient and the type of the service that is being requested. Requests for ambulance transports that require an ALS ambulance (ACLS) will prompt the dispatcher to ask additional questions regarding the patient’s condition and the treatment required.

Insurance plans such as Medicare, Medicaid, or other private insurance all have individual rules and requirements regarding the coverage of non-emergency ambulance service. Virtually every insurance company will require that non-emergency ambulance service be medically necessary and not simply used for the convenience of the patient or the care of a preferred facility or physician. Often, insurance plans require prior approval, a doctor’s signature, as well as specific origin and destination restrictions.

Advanced Life Support-
Prompt’s ALS units are capable of transporting a wide variety of patients and conditions. Three of Prompt’s ALS units are equipped with ventilators where tidal volume and breathes per minute are adjustable. These ventilators can be used on a child or an adult.
Prompt’s ALS units can transport chest tubes that are gravity not machine powered.
Prompt’s ALS units are also equipped for Neo Natal transports. Our units have compressed air, Oxygen, and electrical inverters. Our cot locking mechanisms are also adjustable to handle the isolettes.
Prompt is able to transport most hospital IV pumps. All personnel and equipment are returned to the facility immediately after the transportation.
Some medications require Base Station MD approval or Nurse ride along. Other medications require special restrictions such as cardiac monitoring, IV pumps, or a second IV line.

Basic Life Support-
Prompt has specialty BLS units equipped with cots capable of accommodating patients up to 650 pounds.
Prompt’s BLS units can transport most peripheral IVs and potassium less than 20meq per liter.
Prompt’s BLS units can transport medications in a closed locked system.

MEDCAR
PROMPT also has a non-emergency medcar service. This transportation is for those patients that do not qualify for or do not medically need transfer via an ambulance, but do need service to and from medical appointments.

Prompt Ambulance service will travel anywhere in the continental United States at considerable discounts when Medicare, Medicaid, or Insurances do not cover the cost.

STUDENT RIDERS
PROMPT welcomes certified field providers, EMT students, and paramedic students to ride along to gain exposure to EMS and the type of work that we do. Riding third is a way that current and future EMS providers can see first hand if PROMPT might be a place that they would like to work.

Third riders are required to have a current CPR card and be 18 years of age or older. While riding along, riders are required to dress in blue pants, black footwear, and a white collared shirt. During inclement weather you may be issued a PROMPT windshirt or coat to wear during your ride shift.

You will be required to sign a release and follow the instructions of the crew that you are assigned to. If you would like more details and are interested in riding third person at PROMPT please feel free to contact jimkilinski@promptambulance.com.
